Ok, off on a tangent! Back to photography. My friend Sara takes the most wonderful nature photos. She gave me one of her prints for a going away gift. I have never been into nature photography, but her pictures are so beautiful it kind of inspired me to try my hand at it. So, yesterday I went out in the backyard, with my little point and shoot camera, and played around. Here is what I came up with:

Fun with my camera
Once up a time, in a galaxy far far away....wait a minute, that isn't right! Once upon a time, back in college, I took a photography class. It was mostly about the darkroom, but I did learn a little about apertures, f-stops, and composition. It was all black and white film(!!) on one of those clunky old manual cameras. Once you went out a took all your cool, arty, photos then you went to darkroom and developed them. I really enjoyed it. I even signed up for a second one over the next summer, but I think I went and moved to IA to get married instead. I planned to go back to school in IA, but wanted to wait for a year so I would be a resident and not have to pay an arm and a leg for tuition. Just about the time my year was up and I got accepted to U of I, we went and moved to Seattle, WA. Once we got there, I found out I was pregnant! Then we moved to MN and had 3 more kids. Now here we are in CA, not too far from UC Berkley, where I wanted to go to college once up a time...

Nothing fantastic, but it was kind of fun. Not bad for 10 minutes with my camera in the backyard, while fending a million questions from 4 kids! I was kind of hoping for something great that I could enlarge and frame. We have lots and lots of big white empty walls in our house. Maybe I'll have to keep working on it...

Good start, baby. The fun part about digital cameras is that you can take as many pictures as you need to get one you like! I don't miss the old film cameras at all.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, THAT'S what's blooming in your back yard?! I've seen that kind of stuff at the conservatory. I'm looking forward to coming out to see you so I can look at all the cool plants! Of course, it'll be great to see you and Jared and the boys, too! :D
Well, techinally the bottle brush and the jasmine aren't in my yard, but they are hanging over the fence. :) Th ere are the most amazing plants I have ever seen here. You should see some of the yards! Mine is bare compared to them.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason one of the plum trees is blooming. There are 5, 2 of them have all their leaves, 2 are totally bare, and 1 is bare with blooms. Our landlord said that we get a sort of second short spring here in the fall. Weird, huh?
Jasmine is so amazing. I don't think we can grow it here in the frozen tundra :-)
