California Confessions

So, now that I have lived in Northern California for 8 months, I have a few confessions!

I have a table outside on my back deck for the sole purpose of folding laundry.  Yep, year round I fold my laundry outside.  Even when it is raining.  It's a covered deck, so unless the wind is really whipping around I can still fold laundry outside.

I live 6 blocks for the beach and I have a sandbox on my deck.  Right next to the laundry table!  The 2 (and sometime 3) youngest are hardwired to DIG IN THE SAND.  And it must be done every day.  Or they turn feral...

It was 75 and sunny here a couple of  Saturdays ago.  I went to the beach in SHORTS and an almost sleeveless shirt.  And I was hot!

It was 50 and foggy here the other night.  I was so cold I had to take a hot bath to get warm.

I still haven't started my cucumber and melon seeds.  Know why?  Because it won't frost in October and kill all my plants.

I have been picking rhubarb, broccoli, and lettuce out of my garden for almost 2 months.

I have been wearing sunscreen since the beginning of April, otherwise I get sunburned.  It only takes me about 15 minutes in the sun here to turn pink.  Urgh!  I am so happy that my children did not inherit my skin.  They have yet to wear sunscreen, unless we are going out for several hours.  And they don't burn.

I really don't like my (acres) of hardwood floor.  It's very pretty, but I really don't like to sweep.  And it's loud and echoes.  Especially when 4 boys are running and yelling through the house.  I think we need more area rugs!

2 bathrooms means 2 toilets to clean.  Enough said!

A bigger house just means a bigger mess.  I always blamed our mess on the small house and having to many people and too much stuff for the size of our house.  But you know what?  It turns out it was us after all.  Color me shocked!  Granted the mess is less dense but it's still a mess.

I have to drive 25 miles to buy rice wrappers for Spring Rolls.  I could buy them at Cub Foods in Shakopee, MN with an Asian population of 4 people, and I have to drive 25 miles to buy there here with an Asian population of about 25%.  Gah!

My 4 boys are an anomoly.  I took them to Zoo/Children's museum last week.  The lady at the counter asked me if "All those children!" were on my membership.  Nah, I just picked up some spares alongside the road on my way here.  Kids at school ask Tal and Shaddy "How many brothers do you HAVE?"

I didn't miss the snow last winter.  And I don't think I will miss the heat this summer.

  1. I fold my laundry outside sometimes, too! I'll probably do it today, since it finally warmed up enough here to hang it outside!

Messiness runs in our family. I usually have a mess going, and there's only two of us. My mom is the clutter queen. She makes me look like a piker. So don't feel bad! Life is too short to stress about messes.

My goodness, where I used to live in TN, people who only had four kids were just getting started!

    Love your true confessions!
