Remember me?

Hi, my name is Sarah.  I used to blog here.  Life took a few twists and turn, but I'm still here.  I think...

Trying to catch up is a lost cause, so I'm not even going to try.  But you know what?  This is  MY blog and I don't have to apologize or feel bad, right?  Right?  Sigh. Ok, so I feel a little bad about not keeping up the blog.  Bleah.

All right, enough of that.  What's been going on here?  Well, let me think.  Lots of stuff.   We are back to school, having survived epic uniform ordering crisis of 2012.  There is still a box of uniforms that either were incorrectly sized or the wrong freaking item altogether (like the skirt that was supposed to be a shirt) to be returned.  But hey, it's postage paid with no deadline because it was their mistake, so I'm all good.  It is apparently not my year for ordering things that need to be delivered.  Jared wanted a Claymore (a really big sword - like almost 5 feet of sword) for his birthday.  So, I ordered that puppy and after a month of aggravation trying to get the order processed because the company I ordered from SUCKS, it is damaged in transit.  As in they packed it in a flimsy cardboard box with nothing around the blade except packing peanuts.  Hello?  5 foot metal blade might need a little support?  Of course it was under a gorilla during transport and arrived with a fantastically bent 5 foot blade.  Urgh!  Not sure I want to try ordering Christmas gifts this year...

So, back to school!  Tal is in 5th grade this year.  He has officially moved to the Middle School.  Agh!  I am not old enough to have a child in middle school.  I remember being in middle school!   He has had a couple of pretty rough years of school, but so far this year has been great.  He is doing awesome, has very little homework, and is loving the freedom of middle school.  Who knew?  Shad is in 3rd grade and has made the transition from Shaddy to Shad (at least at school).  I still call him Shaddy sometimes, but I'm trying to let it go.  Sniff..sniff...sniff.  He is also doing great.  He is in one of the lots of homework years, but is getting a little more independent with it.  Kieran turned 5 in September.  He could have started Kindergarten based on his age, but we didn't really think he was ready, so he is doing his 2nd year of preschool and loving it.  He is the oldest kid at preschool this year and currently the only "PreK" kid, so he is feeling pretty big.  There are a couple of other older kids who will be starting in a few weeks, but for right now he is enjoying being his teacher's helper and getting to do all the "special" projects with her.  Alric is still a little guy, so he is still home with me all the time.  He is my cleaning helper.  I kid you not!  He asks me to "SWIFER!"  and gets mad and stomps his feet at me if I say no.  Since school started, I have lots of clean floors.

In other news, we did finally manage to sell our house back in MN. We are now officially broke.  Actually worse than broke.  But, we did the right thing and sold it instead of walking away from it.  That is saying something, right?  I don't think I ever want to buy another house again, but at least it is done.  That being said, renting is pretty awesome.  We are getting a new dishwasher this week and a new washer is in the plans too.  Why?  Well, we don't pay the water bill because our landlords want to obsessively water the lawn.  Now, I don't mind the pretty lawn, but having a beautiful, green lawn in a place that doesn't get rain for ohhhhh, say 5 or 6 months out of the year, seems kinda silly.  But whatever floats their boat.  Anyway, the water rates went up and they got a huge water bill last month.  So, they are installing more water efficient appliances.  Which I get, and I'm sure will make a difference with the obscene amount of dishes and laundry that I do.  And as a bonus, we are getting a really nice and QUIET dishwasher.  Wooohoo!   Our currently dishwasher sounds like a jet is taking off in the kitchen.  Also, in the renting is awesome category, we are getting a new toilet in the master bath.  A couple of days ago we started to get the worst smell ever in the bathroom.  Apparently the wax ring under the toilet has degraded and is letting sewer gas into the bathroom.  Jared is most pleased, because he didn't have to crawl under the house (in the very small crawl space) to figure out what the problem was.  I am most pleased because we don't have to pay for any of this.  Or even deal with it.  I call the landlord and he comes and fixes it.  Win!  And our landlord rocks and puts in nice things like what they have in their own house.

So, yeah, things are going.  We are almost (I hope) out of fog season.  It supposed to be 83 here tomorrow, which is crazy warm for here.  I think I have worn shorts twice since we moved here, guess I may need to break them out again!  It's supposed to be warm for a few days, thankfully Tal had some uniform shorts that fit from last year and I had ordered new ones for Shad.  So far the boys wear long sleeve T shirt and pants almost everyday.  But you have to have a few short sleeves and at least 1 pair of shorts just in case.  Oh well, soon I will have the trickle down effect going with the uniforms and won't have to buy everything new every year.  Of course Shad will be able wear Tal's stuff by the time he (Shad) is in high school at the rate they are going.  I swear if that kid gets any skinnier his pants are going to start falling off!  Tal is a tad rounder.  Guess it would be worse if it was the other way around.  Kieran is built like Shad, but Alric is looking to have the more robust Tal build.  I am at a point with Kieran and Alric that I take things that Kieran has outgrown and put them in Alric's dresser.

Of course there are lots of other things going on too, but I think that is enough for now!  Gotta have food for future posts.
